The 100 Mile Running Challenge for School Defibrillators
RAISING MONEY FOR DEFIBRILLATORS IN SCHOOLS
Abbey Windows is proud to be a part of a wonderful money-raising campaign to get more defibrillators into schools.
A defibrillator close by can mean the difference to someone going into cardiac arrest and it is imperative that we have access to as many as possible, particularly in schools, so we can protect those dearest to us.
Friend of the company, Layla, will be running 100 miles in one month in an attempt to raise money for this worthwhile cause. Read on to find out how you can help today!
MEET LAYLA - OUR FUNDRAISING HERO!
Layla is an admirable mother of three who recently joined our team here at Abbey Windows. She’s a self proclaimed lover of exercise and since she left teaching to join us, she’s had a lot more time on her hands to practice her passion!
She recently completed a similar challenge for the Young People vs Cancer Charity in which she raised a substantial amount of money for her running.
Inspired by the generosity of others, she wanted to do the same again! This time for defibrillators in schools. We’re incredibly proud to be a part of this campaign, partnered with The Big Match, for such a good cause.
WHAT DOES A DEFIBRILLATOR DO?
A defibrillator is a key piece of equipment in the rush to save someone’s live when they go into cardiac arrest.
Using a high energy electric shock, the machine shocks the heart back into its natural rhythm, so the paramedics are able to give the person proper medical attention.
Anybody can use a defibrillator as it is not complicated or difficult.
Should you need to use one, call 999 and begin performing CPR if you know how to. Follow the instructions and use the defibrillator whilst waiting for the paramedics to arrive and it could mean saving someone’s life.
HOW CAN I HELP?
We’re taking donations now on our Go Fund Me page which can be found here! Abbey Windows, in partnership with Reading Trade Windows, is proud to be ‘running’ this campaign.
If you’re inspired by Layla’s campaign, please share on social media, either directly through the Go Fund Me Page or through the Abbey Windows or The Big Match social media pages.
THE FIRST DEFIBRILLATOR
Layla’s hard work has quickly led to us raising enough money to fund the campaign’s first defibillator! Following a round of nominations on social media, Stockton House Pre School was chosen as the recipient from the names drawn out of a hat by Layla herself.
The defibrillator was presented to Head Teacher, Mrs Bounds, who said: “On behalf of everyone here at Stockton House Pre School, I would like to say how truly delighted we are to have won the defibrillator for our setting. It is an amazing gift that really can mean the difference between life and death; a gift that we hope, in a way, we never have to use but you just never know.
“All our teaching staff here at Stockton House Pre School are qualified paediatric first aiders but this defibrillator will add that extra measure of safety and security for all the 100 children on roll here, their parents/grandparents/carers, the pre-school staff members as well as those of the Stockton House Conference Centre and their visitors. I would like to thank Abbey Windows for drawing our name out of the hat and for giving us the opportunity to have this life-saving device here on site.”
